Frequently Asked Questions

Purpose

Rate of stunting or chronic malnutrition in children globally is 22%. in Pakistan, this rate is 38% while in rural Sindh, this rate is 59%. We are starting our operations from rural Sindh, but plan to expand to Baluchistan and other areas of Pakistan where there are high rates of malnutrition.

The big problem in poor areas of Pakistan is lack of dietary diversity. There is very little protein in their diet. Meat is an important source of protein and of key minerals and vitamins.

Operations

Our staff is directed to cover a wide area for meat distribution. At our office, we track the areas where meat is distributed through Google Maps. We try and ensure that different households and areas are covered.

The meat is weighed at the end of the sacrifice. Besides our staff who is present at the time of meat processing, we also keep a track in our office of how much meat is obtained from a goat of a particular weight. The meat obtained is packaged in 0.5 kg bags. We centrally track the trends of how much the goat weighed, how much meat was obtained and how many 0.5 kg packages were made and distributed. We obtain the telephone numbers of meat recipients and goat owners wherever available. This is used for randomly checking the distribution of meat.

We are starting with a couple of districts of interior Sindh, including Matiari and Gharo. As the operation matures, we quickly plan to expand to all the districts of interior Sindh, Baluchistan, Southern Punjab and rest of the areas of Pakistan with high malnutrition.

Financial Model

About 75 - 80% of the amount received is used to purchase the goat locally from the farmers. About 15 -20 % is used to pay the staff responsible for the meat distribution, the butcher and to run the website and the operations. About 5% is the profit which is primarily used for the growth and expansion of this enterprise.

These are given to the butcher to cover some of his/her costs.

No, we are a social enterprise. This means we are primarily driven by the social cause but we operate with small profit margin. This margin is necessary for our sustenance and expansion.
